FAIRUZ FAUZY SHINES IN MONACO
Monaco, 25th May 2008 – Fairuz Fauzy (FORTEC – MALAYSIA)
made headlines when he finishes third on the podium in
Monaco today in the World Series by Renault as the support
event of the 2008 Monaco F1 Grand Prix. It was a fantastic
achievement indeed for young Malaysian as this was his
first time driving the all-new 2008 Formula Renault 3.5
car this season. He had missed the first four races of
the season; Monza (Italy) and Spa (Belgium) due to budget
constraint.
Being hailed as driver’s circuit, Monaco is the most difficult circuit
in the F1 calendar. However, Fairuz has displayed a high level of driving standard
and maturity to finish on the podium under the treacherous rain and tricky condition.
It was a proud moment for Fairuz as this is the first time for a Malaysian to
finish in the podium in Monaco.
Fairuz commented “I was only aiming to be in the top 5. Anything more is
a bonus in Monaco especially when the car is totally new to me, and the track
is not an easy one. My team, Fortec have demonstrated a high level of professionalism
in preparing the car under a such tricky condition. This is a good start and
I could not ask for more. I hope to improve further in next round, Silverstone
(7-8 June)”.
Fairuz now stands 11th in the championship. The race was won by Charles Pic (Tech
1 – France) and 2nd place, Giedo van der Garde (P1 – Netherlands).
There are 26 drivers competing in the championship.
